Connecting to Servers

You’ll need to connect to an application server to create your application. The application you create will be stored on this server. When your amazing application is finished and users are dying to use it, they’ll connect to the application server where you created your fantastic program.
When you are connected to the application server, Text-to-Software can automatically upload and download the current application. When you make changes, the Text-to-Software helper monkeys automatically merge them into the existing application and deploy it when you upload them to the application server.

TO CONNECT TO THE APPLICATION SERVER
1. Click the Connection tab.
2. Type information in the following boxes:
• Username
• Password
• SageTea Server Address
• SageTea Server Port

NOTE! The username and password are the ones you set up in the admin panel.

3. Click the Connect button.

 

When you’re connected, you’ll see notes displayed in the window at the bottom of the Connection tab. The server’s rules engine generates these messages when it processes real-time events.

TO DISCONNECT FROM THE APPLICATION SERVER
When you’re finished with your masterpiece, you can disconnect from the Application Server.
1. Click the Connection tab.
2. Click the Disconnect button.

Adding, Renaming and Deleting Server Profiles

You can save your server connection login info in profiles, which store the information, so you don’t have to keep remembering it all the time. You can set up multiple profiles for multiple servers or multiple personalities.
When setting up a profile, you have to first set up the profile, then edit the info in it.
You can also rename and delete profiles.

TO SET UP A SERVER PROFILE
1. On the Connection tab, in the Profiles area, click the Add button.
2. In the Enter Profile Name box, type a name for the profile.
3. Click OK.
4. In the Profiles box, select the profile you just added.
5. Type the appropriate info in the following boxes
• Username
• Password
• SageTea Server Address
• SageTea Server Port

6. In the Profiles area, click the Save button.

TO RENAME A PROFILE
1. On the Connection tab, in the Profiles box, click a profile.
2. Click the Rename button.
3. In the Please enter new profile name box, type the new name.
4. Click OK.

TO DELETE A PROFILE
1. On the Connection tab, in the Profiles box, click a profile.
2. Click the Delete button.

Logging on to an Application Automatically

You can skip the tedious process of typing your username and password every time you log in to your published web application by choosing to log in automatically.

TO LOG IN AUTOMATICALLY
1. Click the Content Management tab.
2. Enable the Automatic Login checkbox.
3. In the Username box, type the username.
4. In the Password box, type the password.

Connecting to the Text-to-Software Application Server to upload or download an application

Every time Text-to-Software is started, the default starting point is the First tab. Connecting to the Text-to-Software server is done through the Connections tab.

To access the Connections tab, click on the Connections tab near the top of the screen.

Login Details

The Connections tab has a number of fields and buttons. There are four fields located in the Login Details area of the Connections tab that are required to be completed. They are:

• Username
• Password
• SageTea Server Address
• SageTea Server Port

Username and Password, go without saying. However, an important thing to note when working with Text-to-Software, is that each application being developed is assigned a specific port on a particular Text-to-Software Server. For more information about the Text-to-Software Server Address, and the Text-to-Software Server Port, please see Glossary of Terms.

In order to connect to the Text-to-Software Application Server to upload or download an application, a user will need to know not only their Username and Password, but also the Text-to-Software Server Address and Port associated with that application.

The connection buttons below these fields are:
• Connect
• Download
• Desktop
• Disconnect
• Upload
“Web Server Status” field is clickable and is a hyperlink to preview that enables you to open the application once you have uploaded your changes.

Creating a User Profile for a Single Application/Saving the Login Information

Saving the login information as a profile can help skip the tedious process of typing the username, password, server address, and port every time a user connects. To do this, follow these steps:

1. Click the Add Profile button in the Connection Profiles field
2. Give the profile a name.
3. Then click the profile
4. Type the login information in the profile
5. Click the Save button.

NOTE! Every application has a different port. When working on multiple applications, different login information will be required to access each application.

Profiles have specific icons that allow you to do the following:
• Add Profile
• Delete Profile
• Save Profile
• Rename Profile
• Import Profile
• Export Profile

Helpful Tip! Renaming profiles can be useful for assigning them a memorable name, i.e. the application or the user’s own name, an important event, etc.

Since Text-to-Software is system-specific, profiles can also be Imported and Exported in order to have them on multiple systems.

Helpful Tip! Remembering different login information for multiple applications can be a challenge. So, to make things easier, you can create a profile for each application, and whenever you want to log in to work on a particular application, you can simply select that application’s profile – the four fields will fill in automatically. Then click Connect.

Connecting to the Application Server

The network settings must be entered in order for Text-to-Software and the Application Server to communicate with each other. Just like the login details section of the Connections tab provide the relevant information for the Application Server being used, the network settings below the login details provide the relevant information related to the client network. The following is the descriptions of the sections that need to be completed in order to connect:

1. The WAN IP Address is the public IP address. It can be manually entered but it is safer to find it automatically found by clicking on the Get button.
2. The IIOP Port Range is range of ports that have been assigned to Text-to-Software, one of which is opened on the client router.

NOTE! Only when both of these sections are properly completed will you be able to connect to the Application Server.
Before being able to set these variables, ports must be opened on the client network. This is usually done by accessing the router and adding Port Forwarding settings. If you do not have direct access to the router, you will need to contact your system administrator to do this for you.
Once the login information has been entered and saved as a profile, the user can then connect to the Text-to-Software server by clicking the Connect button.

Knowing when you are connected to the server and whom to contact if you cannot connect

After a few seconds, the buttons that were grey – Download, Upload, Disconnect– become active, and the Connect and New buttons become grey. This indicates that Text-to-Software is connected to the server.
